“Your smile beams like sunlight on a gull's wing
And the leaves dance and play after you”
- from Turquoise by Donovan

Trips from Here to There: Poems from the Dreamachine is an exciting New Age Renaissance Republique of Poetry work that celebrates Imagist and Symbolist spaces. Eric Schmaltz (Poet, Interedia Artist, Educator, Writer) lives and works in Toronto. His work has been widely published in Canada and internationally, online and in print, including being featured in Poetry is Dead, Carousel, Open Letter, The Capilano Review, Lemon Hound, Broken Pencil. His art media work has been shown in galleries across the country.

As if the Poet/Artist lives inside a magical dreamspace, looking back across time perhaps past a love affair long ago. As if he is someone who lives above the machine the “Ground Hog Day” loop of a repetition of days, marked by sleep and saved by dreams.

The poetry itself is in the Beat Tradition, a staccato delivery of searing images in few words, a broken thought train that “bangs in the dance.” The full and beautiful nature images that cut in dazzling light, a surrealist magic.

“somewhere on a lake

my house is an elastic.

the drawers are filled with stones.

a crack in the door is a blue light.

the rooms are accented by peacocks.”

This Writer loved the use of the descriptive colours of turquoise and orange. A brilliant celebration of light and silence. The poetry, a taste of water that leaves you wanting more, Trips from Here to There: Poems from the Dreamachine by Eric Schmaltz and above/ground press.

Genre: Poetry, New Age
